1The Challenge
What was the challenge?
The company gathered 15 participants in Sri Lanka around a clear mandate: tighten team cohesion, break down silos, and grow the kind of trust that translates into real performance. The 15 attendees, all from Airbnb's leadership team, set off on a thrilling Sri Lankan City Race, travelling from Galle to Colombo. The goal was to strengthen teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving through a series of one-of-a-kind challenges set in the heart of Sri Lanka.
2Our Solution
What solution did we design?
The experience featured a series of challenges, including the Bath a Turtle Challenge, the River Safari Challenge, and the Fort Mystery Challenge. These tasks pushed teams to navigate the city, solve puzzles, and work together to reach their destinations, all while immersing themselves in Sri Lanka's rich culture.
3How We Did It
How was the programme delivered?
The adventure kicked off with a briefing and an introduction to the city's hidden gems. Teams then broke into groups to take on a run of city-based challenges that tested their navigation skills, creativity, and teamwork. To keep moving forward, participants had to crack codes, complete physical tasks, and put high-tech navigation gadgets to use.
4Key Outcomes
What were the results?
The city race built collaboration, adaptability, and leadership in a fast-moving setting. Participants came away with tighter bonds, sharper problem-solving skills, and lasting memories of an exciting team-building experience in Sri Lanka.
All 15 leaders finished the programme rating it 9.8/10 overall, with facilitation independently scored at a perfect 10.0/10. In the weeks that followed, the company reported a clear, lasting improvement in cross-team communication — and went on to engage The Thought Bulb again for a follow-up session.
